Google replaces Google Fit with Health Connect

Starting in 2025, Google is making a change behind the scenes: they will no longer support direct connections to Google Fit from apps like The Pavelka App. Instead, they are introducing a new platform called Health Connect.

What does this mean for you?
You can still use Google Fit just as you always have. The only difference is that you'll connect Google Fit (or any other health and fitness apps you want) to Health Connect, which will then securely share your activity data with The Pavelka App.
This means you will now share your data with us, and we will receive your data through Health Connect, ensuring that your data remains consistent and secure.

What happens next
Once you have
set up Health Connect with your health and fitness apps, and have connected The Pavelka App to Health Connect  you will continue syncing just like before, but now through Google's more secure and reliable system. You can adjust or revoke access at any time in your device’s Health Connect > App permissions settings or by disconnecting Health Connect in your Profile settings on The Pavelka App.

What is Health Connect and how does it work?

Health Connect is a centralized service by Google, built into Android, that helps the health and fitness apps you configure access to, including Google Fit, share activity data like steps, exercise and workouts. It keeps all your data on your device, and only shares what you allow, with apps you choose, for example, The Pavelka App.

How to connect The Pavelka App to Health Connect

If you are taking part in a Pavelka Wellbeing Challenge on The Pavelka App, you can follow these three simple steps to ensure you are syncing your activity through Health Connect.

  1. Open The Pavelka App, go to Settings > Preferences, or navigate to your Challenge and tap Connect under the Connected App Or Device section.
  2. Select Health Connect.
  3. When the  Health Connect pop-up appears, grant Pavelka permission to access steps, exercise, distance, and calories burned. Accessing these, ensures Pavelka can read complete workout session details without interruption, capturing accurate and complete data to sync to your challenge.
